I am trying to read through all your posts on SFY. My biggest question is this: Our therapist is recommending LAMP because the buttons are slightly larger (we have some fine motor issues from CP) and because although most daily vocab for him is only two screens deep, LAMP has a three screens deep availability he will have a larger vocabulary available eventually (84x84x84=592,000) if this turns into a long term/permanent speech solution. Do you have any major complaints about LAMP?https://unfinishedadventure.com/https://www.blogger.com/profile/03340989285733279481noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4675590510792979183.post-79555598502423164052015-03-31T19:00:01.853-04:002015-03-31T19:00:01.853-04:00I don't have a child with speech or fine motor...I don't have a child with speech or fine motor skill difficulties but I cried tears of joy and hope for Maya when I watched this video.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4675590510792979183.post-85625269161490013002014-10-29T22:37:29.440-04:002014-10-29T22:37:29.440-04:00So glad I saw this! During that time, I went to several trainings as different students got new augmentative communication devices. Only once did I see a child really learn to effectively use the device for communication. I found most devices confusing and cumbersome. Now I am a volunteer at a school for autistic children in India. We have lots of non verbal students. I have introduced IPADs in the classroom and am searching for the best Apps. I'll definitely be looking for donor money for this on all our IPADs. Thanks for the demo. I work as an SLT in Scotland, and have already been told numerous times how lucky she is to have a SLT Mummy. People are trying to be nice but are so far off how you feel as a Mum - heartbroken, devastated, worried etc. Nevertheless, I love her, and have put into place all the strategies learned from my job - objects of reference, signing, vocal play, copying etc which are really helping to maximise her communication potential. But I have also been starting to research what apps are out there that she may need - Thanks for this post, and videos, really helpful. Also loved your post 'the mum I would have been' - pinpoints exactly how it feels. xSarahnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4675590510792979183.post-82237566276778282012013-07-22T09:57:15.945-04:002013-07-22T09:57:15.945-04:00I'm not familiar with it, but others in this g...I'm not familiar with it, but others in this group might be---it's a FB group for users of SFY, but there are members who are using other devices/apps and others who have tried many things in the past:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/273873326092019/Danahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11193445038085911249noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4675590510792979183.post-41040736793113562402013-07-21T12:09:14.217-04:002013-07-21T12:09:14.217-04:00Do you (or any one out there) have experience with...Do you (or any one out there) have experience with Go Talk Now? I don't currently have any kiddos it would be appropriate for, but I definitely agree with all you said about it being important to keep things in the same place! The one area I see as difficult would be the size of the icons for many kids with fine motor difficulties. I can't wait to see how it works out for Maya as you add more and more. Have you tried adjusting the settings for accessibility to find if there's a way for it to "read" when she pushes as she did in the video (vs. tapping)? I also have to say the video of her talking (which, it definitely IS talking!) made me tear up!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4675590510792979183.post-1510128473612531102012-01-10T01:17:55.248-05:002012-01-10T01:17:55.248-05:00I love this app! It is a simple app, but I think has great potential for the long term as it can be customised, encourages the child to use her own voice and is highly portable. The woman who developed has an excellent personal website which has lots of examples of how she came through various struggles with her own kids.If you google graceapp you'll find it :)Susannoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4675590510792979183.post-3580383188116427862012-01-09T14:38:38.223-05:002012-01-09T14:38:38.223-05:00Your timing is impecible my friend.
